Coexister

Co&xister was born from the desire of Virginia Markus and Pierrick Destraz to support humans and animals in learning to live together in a way that respects everyone’s needs.

They have created a sanctuary dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of animals having been saved from slaughter, abuse, or neglect. In this new haven of peace, nestled in the heart of the Chablais Vaudois, humans and animals get the chance to bond, to learn from each other, to share and move forwards together on a precious journey of resilience. Always with the greatest respect for the environment and in coherence with their ecosystem thanks to permaculture and to a plant-based, organic, zero waste, local consumption model.

Co&xister is an opportunity for everyone to act concretely to save, among others, pigs, horses, goats, turkeys, donkeys, chickens, dogs and cats by making a donation, sponsoring an animal or offering therapy services for animals.

At Equestrio, we have decided to contribute to this coexistence. As part of our partnership, we are financing the restoration of part of a building that is currently not in a good enough condition to accommodate the animals, the purchase of two huts for the pigs, as well as part of the acquisition of a utility vehicle aimed at transporting equipment.

Co&xister is a Swiss charity created in 2018 by Virginia Markus and Pierrick Destraz that aims to to put into practice anti-speciesists and ecological values advocated by militant movements.

Their objective is to show, through first-hand experience, how humans and animal can live together by shifting away from the relationship of domination and exploitation on which their historical relationship has been forged.

The two founders have thus created a sanctuary to rescue farm animals from their fate at the slaughterhouse and mistreated pets.
